Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate Kerala Tourism's week-long State-level Onam celebrations at the Chandrasekharan Nair stadium here on September 3. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Minister for Tourism and Home Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the capital would witness a two-and-a-half hour-long cultural programme "poora pookkalam" to be presented by over 1,000 artistes. Staging of traditional art forms of the State would be the highlight of the programme directed by T.K. Rajeev Kumar. "Over 40,000 persons can witness the inaugural function that is being held for the first time outside the Kanakakunnu Palace premises." "Minipooram" and fireworks would add colour to the function. The Minister said that Kanakakunnu Palace would be the hub of the celebrations in the capital and programmes would be staged at 15 venues till September 9. A food festival and trade fair would be organised at Sooryakanthi exhibition grounds. Eleven leading hotels in the city would participate in the food fest. Public sector and private sector organisations would participate in the trade fair, he added. Mr. Balakrishnan would inaugurate the district-level celebrations in the capital on September 4. "Nattaruvukal" directed by Soorya Krishnamoorthy would be the highlight of the function.
