Coimbatore: A consultative meeting on vocational education and training will be conducted at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), here on September 1 and 2. A release said that the meeting would be for the Southern region that included four States: Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and the two Union Territories of Pondicherry (Puduvai) and Lakshadweep. Participants would include State Government officials, employers and also representatives of industry associations and non-Governmental organisations.
Strategies
Recommendations of this meeting, along with those from other regions, would be considered when formulating initiatives and strategies to be followed during the 11th Five Year Plan period, to provide vocational education and training to at least two crore youth - including school drop-outs - every year. S.C. Khurana, Joint Secretary, (SE) and Vice Chairman (KVS), Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, would be the chief guest and C. Ramasamy, Vice-Chancellor, TNAU, would preside over the function. Recommendations made at the meeting would be sent to the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Planning Commission, Government of India, for policy decisions on the vocational education and training system in the country.
