CHENNAI
: Within 48 hours of receiving a complaint, police arrested two teenaged boys and recovered a stolen handbag containing a cell phone and some gold chains on Thursday.
A police press note said that a couple residing in Anna Nagar West Vasantham Colony Third Street had complained that two youths on a motorcycle had snatched the woman's handbag while they were travelling on a two-wheeler near Anna Nagar Fifth Avenue on Monday evening.
Anna Nagar police registered a case and were on the look out for the offenders.
Since they were aware of the motorcycle involved in the theft, police nabbed the two youths today when they were riding the same vehicle near Anna Nagar Fourth Main Road.
The two were caught as they approached the Sri Maangali Amman Temple, with the help of the public.
Police registered a case after the two confessed that they had snatched the handbag from a woman two days ago.
The two were identified as Rocky alias Rakesh Kumar (18) and Ginjee alias Joseph (19) of Rajamangalam near here.
Commissioner of Police Letika Saran and other officers congratulated the special team and public for their efforts in nabbing the two offenders, the note said.
