An attempt to take Gandhi's peace message to children

It was at a recent rather low-key function when nine books written in simple language were released. Eight of the books released were written by Gandhian campaigner S. Kulandhaisamy and they seek to take Gandhi's message of peace to school children through small stories or subtle anecdotes.

Six of the books - `The Mahatma in Us', `The Joyful Forest', `A happy Home!', `A true friend', `A new World', and `The Peace Soldier' - are in English, while two `Agathhukkul oru assiriyan' and `Amaithikku 1000 Vazhigal' are in Tamil.

The other book was written by Prof. S. Shenbagavalli.

Dr. Kulandhaisamy said these books seek to spread peace and education among young minds. "The stories do not talk much about Mahatma Gandhi but elaborate subtly the concepts that he propounded and showing how violence lies more in the mind rather than in the outside world ... and how to reconcile to that inner violence."
