Development works begin at Sembakkam

Staff Reporter

TAMBARAM : Labour Welfare Minister T. M. Anbarasan inaugurated developmental works worth Rs. 34.52 lakh at Sembakkam Town Panchayat on Wednesday.

A commercial complex constructed at a cost of Rs. 12.50 lakh and a ration shop at a cost of Rs. 1.77 lakh were inaugurated by the Minister. Funds for the construction of the ration shop were drawn from the constituency development fund of M.A. Vaithilingam, the MLA from Tambaram constituency then. Foundation stones were laid for development of parks at a cost of Rs. 18.75 lakh in Bavananthiar Street and in Maruti Nagar.

The Minister criticised the earlier AIADMK government for downgrading the Town Panchayats to Special Village Panchayats. Due to this, many developmental works could not be implemented, he said. Within three months of taking charge, the DMK government was able to reverse the order and made these Village Panchayats Town Panchayats, he added.
