Commodity prices

The following were the rates (Rs. per kg) of essential commodities in local wholesale market on Thursday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Groundnut oil-58, Palmolein oil - 47.25, Sunflower oil-55, Tamarind (flower variety) 35 TO 39, Chillies - 49 TO 54, Rice (2716)- 14, Rice (superfine)-15, Rice (sona masoori)-18 TO 19, Rice (samba masoori)-16, Black gram-46, Red gram-25 to 31.

`Yogasana competitions'

District-level `yogasana' competitions will be held at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium on September 4 at 8 a.m. the Krishna District Yoga Association is conducting these competitions and those selected here will be sent to participate in the 20th inter-district competitions to be held in Warangal from September 7 to 10, says Yoga Association secretary V.V. Rama Rao.

Rotary team for U.S.

Rotary Club of Vijayawada is sending a team to District 6900 Georgia, US, under the Group Study Exchange Programme. For this, the club invites applications from prospective team members for the club level interviews to be held on September 15. All the expenses for the 4-6 week programme will be borne by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.

Milk purchase price up

The Krishna District Milk Producers' Mutually Aided Cooperative Union Ltd has increased its milk purchase price once again with effect from September 1. This is the third rise during 2006 to support milk producers in the wake of sharp fall in procurement. Buffalo milk purchase price is increased from Rs. 210 per kg of fat to Rs. 215.

Tributes paid to former MP

Krishna District Congress Committee SC department observed the 10th death anniversary of former Rajya Sabha member A. Joseph. City Congress Committee president Pyla Somi Naidu garlanded a portrait of Joseph on the occasion.
