Coimbatore: The city police have made certain changes in the traffic pattern on Avanashi Road to decongest the Hope College stretch. The new arrangement will be enforced from Saturday morning. Collector Neeraj Mittal and Police Commissioner Karan Singha took the decision after a detailed study.
Avanashi Road will be exclusively for motorists bound for places on either side of the road and also to Hope College and beyond. Those going to places at and around Singanallur and Tiruchi Road should go via the Lakshmi Mills Junction and Pankaja Mill Road and join Tiruchi Road at Ramanathapuram, says a release from Deputy Commissioner (Law and Order) K. Shanmugavel.
Construction of median
In view of construction of the median at the Hope College Junction, vehicles will not be allowed to turn towards Kamarajar Road from Avanashi Road. The vehicles should go up to the CODISSIA Trade Fair Road Junction and take a U-turn on Avanashi Road to reach Kamarajar Road. Other vehicles bound for Singanallur and nearby areas can take a diversion from Avanashi Road at the Masakkalipalayam Road Junction. Light motor vehicles taking Kamarajar Road from the Tiruchi Road area will have to enter Avanashi Road at the Hope College Junction. They can take a U-turn at the Anna Nagar Junction and go east. To ease congestion, the town bus stand at the Hope College Junction has been shifted 50 metres west and town buses will henceforth stop near the Vilankurichi Road Junction. The mofussil bus stand at Singanallur should be put to full use and buses plying on the Tiruchirapalli, Madurai, Dharapuram and Palladam routes should terminate at and depart from the Singanallur bus stand. Private mofussil buses plying on these routes will not be allowed to enter Avanashi Road and they should ply only via the Lakshmi Mill Junction, Pankaja Mill Road, the Ramanathapuram Junction and on Tiruchi Road. Government buses on mofussil routes will be allowed to enter the city only from 9 p.m. to 6 p.m.
