Bangalore: A family in Bangalore is "almost convinced'' that the young woman who was part of a suicide pact in Goa last Friday, is their missing daughter. Sundararaj, employee in a private company, the stepfather of Nandini, had reported to Ulsoor Gate Police on July 19 that his 17-year-old daughter was missing. She was a 2nd PU student at Banappa Junior College. Nandini was staying for some time with her grandmother and attending classes. "She went to college as usual on July 14 but did not return home. My mother-in-law came rushing to tell me saying that she was missing even late in the evening. We began searching for her and called her friends and also spoke to the college principal,'' Mr. Sundararaj said. He also tried calling her mobile phone number but got the message it was not reachable. He said he was not aware of the young man with whom she apparently went to Goa. "I kept hoping that she would come back; that she must have left because of a quarrel with her grandmother." After some days of waiting he went to the police. A girl identified as Nandini and a young man, Kiran Kumar (22), who had come to Goa, attempted suicide on September 21 at Colva Beach. Kiran Kumar was being treated at a hospital there. But the girl was brought dead. On September 24, the young man went disappearing from the hospital, before the Goa police could question him. It was after reading about this in newspapers that the Ulsoor Gate Police recalled the missing person complaint made two months ago and informed Sundararaj. The missing girl's family came to the Police Commissioner's office on Tuesday to get more details and description about the girl found dead in Goa. From the description they were almost certain it was Nandini. They also managed to contact the police in Goa. The Goa police are sending a team to Bangalore on Wednesday with the personal belongings and photo of the girl. Superintendent of Police, South Goa, S. Prabhu Desai, told The Hindu that the girl's father had contacted him and described what his missing daughter looked like. "Two of our officers are on the way to Bangalore to meet the family and only then they can confirm the identity of the girl found dead,'' he said. They still had no clue about the missing Kiran Kumar or his identity.
