Welcome verdict

The death penalty for Mohammad Afzal, who masterminded the attack on Parliament on December 13, 2001, has come at the right time. One hopes the sentence will send a tough message to all the militant groups.

C. Krishnadas,
Chennai

The death penalty is proportionate to the magnitude of the crime perpetrated on the seat of democracy killing nine persons and injuring 16. But for the alert security staff, the attack would have inflicted a heavy toll.

Security in the country should be tightened as terrorist outfits may plan more attacks in retaliation.

K.V. Seetharamaiah,
Hassan, Karnataka

Mahatma Gandhi's statement "God alone can take life since he alone gives it" has no relevance in the instant case. The court has rightly sentenced the terrorist to death.

K. Pradeep,
Chennai
