Bangalore: The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has not yet planned any sustained sealing operations in the city, N. Jayaram, Joint Director (Enforcement), has said. on Tuesday Only commercial establishments in residential areas that have been brought to the attention of the BMP would be closed down, he said
11 establishments
Mr. Jayaram was speaking to The Hindu with regard to the sealing of eleven commercial establishments in residential areas in Sadashivnagar on Friday. The operation was carried out as the BMP had received a notice from the High Court to close down commercial establishments in residential areas, he said.
Survey
The BMP found in a survey that 90 such illegal establishments were functioning. While a few shops had shut down after the owners received notices from the BMP, about 42 establishments had obtained a stay from the court. There had been no objections in the case of eleven shops that had been sealed, Mr. Jayaram said. The High Court notice came following a public interest litigation petition filed by the Sadashivnagar Residents' Welfare Association.
