Babri Board seeks revised notification

Lucknow: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board on Sunday demanded a revised notification for the transfer of the Babri Masjid demolition case from the Rae Bareilly court to the CBI court.

Alleging that splitting of the matter into two cases, heard at two different places, had delayed things, Board spokesman S. Q. R Ilyas said: "The AIMPLB and its committee on the Babri Masjid are shocked and anguished at the State Government's negative response to its appeals to issue a revised notification to combine all criminal cases for hearing by the CBI court."

Mr. Ilyas also asked the Centre to withdraw its petition in the Supreme Court seeking a bulletproof structure around the disputed site.

"There is already a 3-tier security structure — local police, PAC and Rapid Action Force — around the disputed site which is enclosed by an iron fence. "What is the need for bulletproof structure?" he asked.
