Sentence to Soren: hearing adjourned
Staff Reporter
Unable to appear in court Angiography cited
NEW DELHI:
A Delhi court on Thursday adjourned the hearing on the quantum of sentence to be awarded to the former Union Minister, Shibu Soren, and four others in the Shashinath Jha murder case to Friday.
Additional Sessions Judge B.R. Kedia adjourned the hearing after counsel for Mr. Soren, R.K. Naseem, told the court that his client was not able to appear, as an angiography had been performed on him and at present he was in the intensive care unit of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
However, the public prosecutor urged the court to hear arguments on the point of sentence and reserve judgment on its conclusion and it could pronounce it when Mr. Soren appeared in the court on his recovery.
However, Mr. Kedia adjourned the matter to Friday.
The court on Tuesday held Mr. Soren guilty under Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 364 (abduction) read with Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
Others convicted are: Nand Kishore alias Nandu, Ajay Kumar Mehta alias Dilip, Pashupati Nath Mehta alias Posho and Shailendra Bhattacharya.
