Cell sites near border to come under scrutiny

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Government has decided to step up monitoring of cell sites near the international border following detection of violation of its existing policy by some mobile phone companies.

As per the licence conditions, clearance is mandatory to provide mobile service and set up base trans-receive stations within 10 km of the border.

The Government has asked the Telecom Engineering Centre to carry out periodic audits to check compliance with the licence conditions, Minister of State for Communications Shakeel Ahmed told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
