NEW DELHI: With the electoral battle in Uttar Pradesh coming closer, the BJP's plans are firming up to make Hindutva its main poll plank even as other parties focus on the Muslim vote. The party's next National Council session will be in Lucknow from January 22 to 24. On Saturday the party lost no time in denouncing the Prime Minister's remarks at the National Development Council. BJP president Rajnath Singh described the remarks as one more example of Muslim appeasement, adding that every Indian citizen has a claim on scarce national resources, not just Muslims. Mr. Singh had just emerged from a meeting with his party general secretaries to which Leader of Opposition L.K. Advani, and the two deputy leaders of the parliamentary party, V.K. Malhotra and Sushma Swaraj, were also invited. Mr. Malhotra told reporters that the political resolution to be adopted at the Council would focus on terrorism, internal security and minority appeasement. A second resolution would be on prices, problems of farmers and the continuing spate of suicides among them. The political resolution is expected to attack the Samajwadi Party and competitive Muslim appeasement among almost all non-BJP parties as seen by the BJP.
