NEW DELHI: After a lengthy trial for 18 years, an Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court here has sentenced two accused to five months' rigorous imprisonment each for attempting to export US dollars and pounds worth Rs.4.50 lakhs to Bangkok in violation of the Customs Act in 1998. ACMM Kamini Lau also slapped fines of Rs.60,000 and Rs.50,000 on each of the convicts, Rajkumar Bansal and Nathi Lal Gupta, respectively. Gupta was sentenced for abetting Bansal to commit the crime.
Arrested
The Customs Department sleuths had arrested Bansal when they searched his baggage at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here when he was going to board a Bangkok-bound flight. Gupta was arrested later.
