Tension in township over idol desecration

Nagpur: Tension prevailed over the alleged desecration of a Hanuman idol at a temple in Kamptee Township near here on Sunday, police said. Some unidentified persons disfigured the idol on Saturday night in Haddi area near Jai-Stambh ground and it was noticed the next morning.

Near-total bandh

The news soon spread and members of a section of the community came out on the streets to stage a protest.

A near-total bandh was observed in the township.

Police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order. — PTI
