MUMBAI: The rupee ended sharply lower at 44.33/34 a dollar on Thursday against 44.1950 on Wednesday in high volatility following the central bank's intervention, prompting heavy dollar buying by public sector banks and oil companies.

After resuming firm at 44.15/16 a dollar, the Reserve Bank of India reportedly intervened as the stronger rupee will hit exporters forcing them to unload positions. The rupee fluctuated in a wide range of 44.15 - 44.36 during the day. — PTI
