VISAKHAPATNAM : Junior carrom players from Visakhapatnam are a force to reckon with in Andhra State carrom. They made up half of the Andhra side in the 34th sub-junior National Carrom Championships held in Trivandrum recently and a couple of them finished among the top in the individual events. Both are proud products of the Siva Sivani School (Marripalem), a school that is providing a lot of support to the game of carrom. A. Pavan secured second rank in the cadet boys' category and M.S.K. Harika was fourth in the sub-junior girls event. Both are in class VII.

Fine form

Pavan displayed fine form to make the final where he lost to Shabaz Akthar of UP. Pavan grabbed the first game of the final but lost the next two in a close fight. Harika defeated many players older than her and made the semi-finals. Though she lost to Suruchi of Bihar in the semi-final, she made the rival fight for every point. Correspondent of Siva Sivani School Neeraj Kumar Sampathy congratulated the two children on their fine performance and thanked coach G. Srinivasa Rao for preparing the children well.

Incidentally, three pupils of Siva Sivani School A. Bhavani and Y. Priyanka along with Harika made up half of the Andhra team for the championships.

In the boys section, Visakhapatnam had three players in the State team: N. Rahul and Rohit of Nalanda Talent School along with A. Pavan.

In the team championship, Andhra boys entered the semi-finals while the girls progressed up to the quarterfinals.
