PAYING RESPECTS: Members of the BHEL Muthamizh Manram after garlanding the statue of saint poet Tiruvalluvar.
This year, a two-day event marked the occasion featuring cultural programmes presented by students of Kalai Kaveri College of Fine Arts. The students presented nine programmes all centring around the principles of Tirukkural. The programmes included Bharathanatyam, a mix of classical dance and western music, dandiya dance, Punjabi dance, kolattam and thappattam. The highlight of the programme was a dance drama like feature called `Kuraloviyam' in which the students gave an impressive performance with proper interpretation of the couplets of the Kural. The whole programme was arranged as a question answer session portraying Tiruvalluvar explaining the ethics of various stages of life. The president of the Manram, T. Anandhan, said the objective of the programme was to inspire the people to follow the moral values shown by Tiruvalluvar.
