Man held with fake passport

TIRUCHI: Immigration sleuths caught an air passenger when he attempted to fly to Bahrain from Tiruchi airport on Thursday by allegedly using a fake passport.

Subramanian (42), the accused, was later handed over to the Airport Police. Airport sources here said Subramanian, hailing from Anandur in Tiruvadanai taluk in Ramanathapuram district, obtained a passport under the fictitious name of Mohammed Gani in 1997 by giving Valavanur in Villupuram district as his place of stay. Using the forged document, he flew to Saudi Arabia where he worked as a carpenter. The sources said Subramanian took the passport under a fake name through a travel agent in Kumbakonam based on the advice given by one of his friend in order to get an employment in the Gulf.

The crime came to light when the immigration sleuths interrogated him after he arrived at the airport to board a Sri Lankan flight to Bahrain via Colombo. He was later arrested.
