"All the facts and figures, which portray the economic growth of India, mean nothing if it does not result in social justice for all," he said. He was addressing a meeting organised by Madurai City Senior Citizens' Forum after accepting `Best Citizen' award conferred on him. Mr. Ramanathan said that social welfare, education and health were the three core areas of his work. "The trust I have started in Madurai emulates a model from South America," he said. He said that education had become expensive and the Government could not be expected to share the burden of educating the poor. Commenting on the health sector, Mr. Ramanathan said that one of the major diseases that plagued the youngsters of the country was `anaemia.' M. Chidambarasamy, Commissioner of Police, presented the award to Mr. Ramanathan.
