Air France to set up call centre in New Delhi

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Air France will set up a call centre in New Delhi in April or May, Pierre-Henri Gourgeon, president and chief operating officer, Air France, said here on Friday.

Talking to journalists about the expansion of Air France KLM flight operations in India, Mr. Gourgeon said the new call centre would handle reservations, claims and frequent flier programmes.

This is the third call centre in the Asia Pacific region.

The other centres were functioning in Australia and China, he said.

Mr. Gourgeon said the passenger load factor, which stood at 70 per cent in November, touched 90 per cent in January. This was one of the factors that encouraged the Air France KLM authorities to increase the number of flights out of India, he said.

Bilateral rights

Air France has bilateral rights to operate 35 flights.

However, it is currently operating only 24 flights out of the country, he said.

Since October 30 last year the group had been developing its network in India, operating three weekly flights to Chennai. In addition to launching flights to Chennai, Air France had increased capacity on other flights between Europe and India.

Similarly, the Paris-Mumbai route is operated using Boing 777-300s with 310 seats. Together, Air France and KLM now offered 42 weekly flights to Bangalore, Chennai, New Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai. On the e-check-in facility offered by Air France, Mr. Gourgeon said 14 per cent of the passengers travelling by Air France out of Bangalore use e-check-in facility.

This is the highest in Asia, he added.
