Special Correspondent

Satellite townships give scope for expansion

  • IT exports to cross Rs. 19,000-cr. mark by end of this fiscal
  • SEZs, 15 IT parks to be set up in 5 million sq. ft. area

HYDERABAD: With the existing infrastructure for Information Technology industry showing signs of congestion, the State Government is planning to develop five integrated satellite townships for IT establishments alongside the Outer Ring Road in Hyderabad.

The satellite townships with requisite infrastructure are intended to encourage major IT companies and multinationals to take up their expansion in these clusters. The locations for these townships will be finalised shortly, according to Information Technology Minister Sabita Indra Reddy.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, she said the Government was also planning to extend IT infrastructure to ten more tier-II cities in the near future in addition to promoting new ventures in major cities like Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Warangal and Tirupati.

She said, the policies adopted by the Government resulted in significant increase in IT operations in the State. IT exports were expected to cross the Rs. 19,000-crore mark by the end of the current financial year.

Against the cumulative investments of Rs. 3,533 crores during 1997-2004, the State witnessed investments of Rs. 3,515 crores in the last two-and-a-half years.
