Majlis MLAs shout down MP

Staff Reporter

We are trying to revive democracy in old city, says CPI(M) MP

HYDERABAD: The MCH council which has earned an image for its business-like functioning suffered a dent during the last meeting on Thursday.

As had happened during the last two meetings, Majlis MLAs and corporators somewhat spoiled their copybook by vociferously preventing CPI(M)'s Rajya Sabha MP P. Madhu from addressing the council.

"He has no business to talk of old city. What does he know of local problems? He can make his speeches in Parliament... " shouted MLAs Moazam Khan and Muqtada Khan, as their party corporators gave lung support.

Repeated appeals by Mayor T. Krishna Reddy fell on deaf ears. An unfazed Mr. Madhu started to speak and continued to do so even after Mr. Reddy adjourned for a tea break.

Refusing to name MIM Party, he said no Government organisation was allowed to work there freely, people were subjugated and the police partial. "We are trying to revive democracy in old city and no force can stop that," he thundered as TDP, MBT and BJP members rushed to his support.

Many corporators appealed for completion of their pending works and also did not forget to mention the contributions of the previous MCH Commissioners P.K. Mohanty and Chitra Ramachandran for setting in motion the development path.

Present Commissioner Sanjay Jaju and Additional Commissioners K. Dhananjaya Reddy (Planning & Projects), N.V.S. Reddy (Traffic & Transportation) and Chief City Planner B. Purushothama Reddy came in for special praise by all the members cutting across party lines.
