Abdul slams century

KOCHI: Abdul Samath hit a sparkling century (123, 73b) as host St. Paul's College thrashed Sacred Heart (Thevara) by 106 runs in the league phase of the Mahatma Gandhi University inter-zone cricket championship at Kalamassery on Tuesday. Offspinner Varun Krishna (four for 19) also had a big hand in the victory.

In another match, Maharaja's College (Ernakulam), riding on mediumpacer Sajith Dharan's five-wicket haul, defeated Kottayam's CMS College by 16 runs.

The scores: St Paul's, Kalamassery 242 for two in 25 overs (Abdul Samath 123, Harikumar 86) bt Sacred Heart, Thevara 136 in 21.3 overs (Babu Shanker 46, Varun Krishna four for 19).

Maharaja's, Ernakulam 179 for nine in 25 overs (Abhijith Menon 63, Mohammed Salim four for 30) bt CMS, Kottayam 163 for nine in 25 overs (Tariq Aman 42, Sajith Dharan five for 19). — Principal Correspondent
