PERAMBALUR : Three persons were killed in two separate road accidents in Perambalur and Tiruchi districts on Tuesday. A college student and a lorry driver were killed and 35 students sustained injuries in a bus-lorry collision on the outskirts of the town in the early hours of Tuesday. The incident occurred at Mangalamedu village on the Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway. The bus carrying a group of inmates of the Adi Dravidar Hostel of Government Arts College at Tiruvannamalai was returning to the hostel after a tour of southern districts when the accident occurred. The paddy-laden lorry was coming from Tirukoilur to Thuraiyur when the two vehicles collided head-on, the police said. The dead were identified as the lorry-driver, Rajendran (28), who died on the spot and R. Sakthi (21), a student, who died of injuries on way to the hospital. Of the injured, 26 were treated as outpatients at the Government Headquarters Hospital here and eight students, who were seriously injured, were referred to the Annal Gandhi Government Headquarters Hospital in Tiruchi.
One killed
One person was killed in a road accident on the Tiruchi-Namakkal State Highway at Michelnaickenpatti on Tuesday. The name of the victim was Bhima Ram (25). The police sources said two persons were coming to Tiruchi in a two-wheeler when the vehicle collided head on with another motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. While one of them died on the spot, the other person was admitted to the Namakkal Government Hospital.
