Tuticorin:
It'll be hard for an onlooker to believe that a village library, an extension of the district library, exists on the first floor of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board complex at Sankaraperi here, as the structure is in a dilapidated condition.
The parapet on the first floor is broken and the public will have to go through `scary' moments before they reach the library.
Recently, 20 visitors who were inside the library had a miraculous escape as some portions of the concrete from the roof came down simultaneously.
"Earlier, about 200 persons on an average used the facilities at the library every day, which now has come down to single digits," an official said.
The villagers say that it remains a mystery that the authorities concerned had chosen to establish a library in this `edifice' in 2005, which was in a bad condition even then.
A. Mahadevan, District Library Officer, said that steps would be taken to shift the library to another building very soon.
