KuALA LUMPUR: Animal lovers are keeping a tight leash on cats and dogs in a southern Malaysian state amid fears that foreign labourers have made meals out of missing pets, a newspaper reported on Sunday. Residents say many pets recently vanished in several neighbourhoods in Johor state, with some residents claiming to have found animal skins discarded in trashcans. Suspicions that drug addicts stole these pets and sold them to migrant workers have led owners to maintain a close watch on their pets. Shahrir Abdul Samad, local MP, urged labour agents to educate migrant workers about local culture, including what must not be eaten. AP
