New York: The all-woman police unit from India serving in Liberia has been praised for its work in the peacekeeping mission by the United Nations envoy in the country. ``The work being done by the first all-woman unit ever to be assigned to a U.N. mission shows the special contribution women can make to maintaining stability,'' said Alan Doss, Secretary-General's special envoy. The U.N. has been finding it difficult to get all-woman units, especially needed in view of cases of rape and other abuse by peacekeepers. ``We know from police experience around the world that women officers are good at handling potentially violent situations,'' Mr. Doss told officers of the unit during a visit to their headquarters in Congo Town, near Monrovia, on Thursday.
