Train services hit as power line snaps

KOCHI: Rail traffic to areas north of Ernakulam was disrupted till Tuesday afternoon after an earth wire of the 110-kV power line of the KSEB snapped and fell on the 25-kV electric traction of the Railways at Kalamassery around 12.40 a.m. on Tuesday.

Following this, power went off and the rail line was declared unfit for upward and downward traffic.

Ernakulam area manager of Railways C.M. Chandrasekharan Nair said that trains running on diesel engines began plying towards Aluva by 4 a.m. and by 6 a.m. towards Ernakulam.

"Electric locomotives towards Aluva began service by 10 a.m. and those towards Ernakulam by 3 p.m."

Five trains towards Ernakulam - Rajdhani Express, Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram Express, Amritha Express, Malabar Express and Jayanti Janata Express and two from Ernakulam - Amritha Express and Guruvayur Express - were delayed.

These trains were help up at the Ernakulam and Aluva stations.
