Institute to come up on 15,000 sft inside Ramanaidu Studios

  • It will train filmmakers, writers, cinematographers
  • Curriculum, timeframe yet to be finalised

HYDERABAD: A film school, equipped with contemporary audio and video facilities, might soon be a reality in Hyderabad.

"There is a lot of talent in Hyderabad and a film school will help train young filmmakers, cinematographers, writers and actors," says producer D. Suresh Babu, who set up a 15,000 sq ft premise inside Ramanaidu Studios for the institute.

Announcing this on Sunday, the third day of the Hyderabad International Film Festival being held here, Thammareddy Bharadwaja, president, Telugu Film Directors Council said, "The idea is to bring established writers and filmmakers from all over the country to give guest lectures and teach at the institute. In addition, personalities from the Telugu film industry will also interact with students."

Though the curriculum and the timeframe to open the institute were yet to be finalised, the council was gearing up for the first such school in the city.

    Practical training

"Rather than focusing on theoretical study, the institute will look at giving practical training. The audio and video lab facilities at the Ramanaidu Studios will be an advantage for students to apply their learning to practice. We'd like to make this institute better than even the film institute in Pune," said Mr. Bharadwaja.

The ongoing film festival, apart from having provided a platform to directors of documentaries and short films, also promises access to mainstream cinema. "We are on the lookout for bright young talented directors who are keen on entering mainstream cinema ," said Mr. Suresh Babu. At the end of the festival, the Golden Pearl award would be given away to two short films in the 10-15 minutes category and 15-30 minutes category.
