Threat to intensify land struggles

CPI (M) demands constitution of independent commission

HYDERABAD: Reiterating its demand for constitution of an independent commission to deal with land-related issues, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State committee has threatened to take possession of the assignment lands from May if the Government fails to distribute them to eligible poor.

The CPI (M) State committee meeting that commenced here on Monday discussed the issue threadbare and decided to join hands with different associations that had announced plans for launching agitations on land issues. The CPI (M) opined that there was no truth in the claims that assignment lands were being resumed for distribution among the poor. This was evident from the fact that the Government was trying to regularise lands in possession of the rich while those owned by the poor were being acquired forcibly.
