CPI stages rasta roko

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Communist Party of India State council has demanded that the Government put a halt to forcible acquisition of land owned by the poor for giving it to multinational companies.

CPI activists led by K. Ramakrishna, former MLA, staged rasta roko at Jeedimetla here in protest against the Government's move to acquire land from poor at Pocharam village in Ghatkesar mandal.

Though the Andhra Pradesh Housing Board had more than 500 acres of land in the area, the Government was trying to acquire the lands of poor in the name of development projects, they alleged.

Traffic came to a standstill in the area as the activists continued their protest till noon, forcing the police to arrest them.
