77 arrested for gambling

CHENNAI
: Raids were conducted on many clubs in the Vadapalani and T.Nagar police station limits over the past three days, in which 77 persons were held on charges of gambling.
The simultaneous raids followed complaints that some people were gambling at the clubs, according to the police. It was found that many played with high stakes clandestinely. The special team seized Rs. 8,000 in cash and arrested 77 persons. Further investigation is on.
Fake CDs seized
About 1,000 compact discs valued at Rs. 6.47 lakh were seized and two persons arrested .
According to the Central Crime Branch police, following a tip-off, a special team seized 300 CDs from A Mohammed Ibrahim (21) of Netaji Nagar, Tondiarpet, and 700 CDs from S. Tajudeen (35) of Ponnusami Nagar, Sembium, when they were selling them on a platform in Ekkaduthangal. Based on their confession, the police registered a case under Section 51 read with 63 of the Copy Right Act, 1957. A city court remanded them to judicial custody, a press note said.
