Buddhadev Bhattacharya and Sitaram Yechury to address rally

CHENNAI : The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) will open its eighth annual conference with a rally, which will be addressed by West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya and Member of Parliament Sitaram Yechury on Monday.

Employment and education for all would be the key concerns of the conference, which is to be inaugurated on Tuesday by actor Mammooty, said members of the reception committee.

Reception committee secretary S. Kannan said DYFI members had taken out a rally on Anna Salai to condemn the damage caused to their hoardings by "people associated with the ruling party". He alleged that the DMK cadres had told them not to put up the hoardings in some areas. Complaints have been lodged with the police in Tiruvanmiyur, T. Nagar and MGR Nagar, he said. The DYFI would continue agitations outside police stations, if no action was taken.

The last day of the conference would coincide with the celebrations marking Chief Minister Karunanidhi's 50 years in the Legislative Assembly.

The challenges before governments formed by Left fronts would also be discussed on Wednesday evening as part of the conference. Visitors from various countries, including Cuba, Sri Lanka, would address the conference on Thursday.
