Tara to lead Indian challenge

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: U.S.-based Tara Iyer will head the Indian challenge in the Kerala Open ITF women's tennis tournament to be held at the Trivandrum Tennis Club from May 14 to May 20.

Former India no 1. Rushmi Chakravarthi, Sanna Bambri, Megha Vakaria, Isha Lakhani and Asha Nandakumar are the other Indians who will play in the main draw.

The 19-year-old Romanian Agnes Szatnari is the top ranked player in the $25,000 tournament. Another youngster Lauren Albanese is expected to be one of the main contenders for the title.

The singles draw will have 32 players including eight qualifiers and four wild cards. The qualifying competition will be held at the TTC courts on May 12 and 13. The draw for the tournament will be made on May 11.
