Sailing
Chennai: CSE's Arisuddan Seth led with ten points after the first three races of the Chennai Port Trust National Optimist coastal sailing championship. Seth was followed by compatriot Gaurav Pikale (11) and TNSA's Shwetha Sadanand (12) in the overall standings. The Low Score System is being used to calculate the points. Sailing was not easy on a hot sweltering Sunday. The wind speed picked up from the second race and some of the swells were as high as five feet. Said Shwetha who clinched the first race and finished runner-up in the second - "It was tough riding the waves. There were a lot of chops and swells." The wind speed was between 12 and 15 knots and downwind sailing posed questions to budding sailors. Arisuddan, Pikale and Shwetha found the right answers. Arisuddan won the second race, while Pikale came back strongly to nail the third. Shwetha lost some ground in the last race of the day - her boat capsized - but it was nevertheless a profitable day for her and TNSA. The results: Race 1: 1. Shwetha Sadanand (TNSA); 2. Arisuddan Seth (CSE); 3. Praveen Dhanasekaran (TNSA); 4. Gerad Ambrose (TNSA); 5. Nishanth Chandrashekar (TNSA). Race II: 1. Arisuddan Seth (CSE); 2. Shwetha Sadanand (TNSA); 3. Sarav Rajavelu (TNSA); 4. Gaurav Pikale (CSE); 5. Amol Baraya (GYA). Race III: 1. Gaurav Pikale (CSE); 2. Nishanth Chandrasekar (TNSA); 3. Gerad Ambrose (TNSA); 4. Sarav Rajavelu (TNSA); 5. Hussein Bhavnagarvala (TNSA). Overall standings: (After Day One as per the Low Score System): 1. Arisuddan Seth (CSE) 10; Gaurav Pikale (CSE) 11; Shwetha Sadanand (TNSA) 12. Special Correspondent
