MYSORE: The district administration has sent a proposal to the State Government seeking its permission to set up Mysore City Infrastructure Improvement Committee for coordinating various projects, including the ambitious Jawarharlal Nehru National Urban Mission (JNNURM), sanctioned to the city. The committee is proposed to ensure proper coordination of various departments, including Central government agencies, for executing the projects cleared for Mysore, which had been identified as the second best investment destination in the State after Bangalore. Deputy Commissioner S. Selva Kumar, who has been entrusted with the task of coordinating in projects such as JNNURM and airport modernization, told The Hindu that the committee comprising heads of various departments and State and Central agencies (stakeholders), would meet often and discuss infrastructure development, development works, progress of works, etc., "If all the stakeholders are aware of the projects, convening meetings of individual departments can be prevented. The flow of information to all departments will be simultaneous, thereby giving no room for communication gaps," he said. The Union Ministry of Urban Development is spending crores of rupees to improve the city's infrastructure under JNNURM. Likewise, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) had launched airport modernisation work at Mandakalli near here. The Railways too have sanctioned the doubling of track between Bangalore and Mysore. "All these projects require coordination between various departments and agencies of State and Centre for their effective implementation. Therefore, a proposal to form a committee," he said. It has been proposed to involve the city police commissioner, city corporation commissioner, MUDA commissioner and the superintendent of police in the committee.
