Toll high due to rules violation: Vijayakant

Staff Reporter

TIRUPUR: Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam leader Vijayakant on Thursday said that if the norms laid down by the Government to run bars attached to TASMAC outlets had been followed, the death toll would not have been high in the Tirupur tragedy.

After visiting the accident spot and consoling the relatives of the victims at Tirupur Government Hospital, he announced a solatium of Rs.10,000 each to the affected families. He said the authorities had failed to ensure implementation of the norms.

Coimbatore MP and Communist Party of India leader K. Subbarayan urged the Government to take preventive measures to ensure that such tragedies did not recur.
