CHENNAI: The former Indian captain Chandu Borde has been appointed the manager for India's cricket tours of Ireland and England. The 72-year-old Borde, an accomplished former Test all-rounder, has served two stints in the selection panel, from 1984 to 1986 and 1999 to 2002. He was the manager of the Indian team which toured Pakistan in 1989-90. Significantly, Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh do not figure in the Indian squads for the ODI series in Ireland and the three-Test series in England. The national selection panel, which met in New Delhi on Tuesday, also left out pacemen Munaf Patel and Irfan Pathan from both the series. Wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been named vice-captain for the matches in Ireland. Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Ajit Agarkar return to the ODI squad. Tendulkar will be Rahul Dravid's deputy for the Test series against England. Middle-order batsman Rohit Sharma is the new face in the team for the series in Ireland. Paceman Ranadeb Bose finds a place in the Test squad. The BCCI, during its Working Committee meeting, announced that the contracts of Venkatesh Prasad and Robin Singh, the bowling and the fielding coaches, have been extended by a year. The board has also decided to revert to the graded system of contracts to the players.
