ANGRY LOT: Residents of Thillai Nagar and Kannapa Nagar blocking traffic on Mettupalayam Road in the city on Monday. —
COIMBATORE: About 100 residents, including 50 women, sat on Mettupalayam Road and blocked traffic for half-an-hour to demand good roads, drainage and drinking water in Thillai Nagar and Kannappa Nagar that came under Ward 66 of the Coimbatore Corporation. The residents began the blockade around 10.30 a.m., complaining that their appeals to the Corporation and the ward councillors for better amenities had been to no avail. Talks held
District administration, Corporation and city police officials held talks with the residents to pacify them to give up the protest. The angry residents dispersed only after the district officials assured them that necessary steps would be taken to improve the civic conditions in the two residential areas. Electrocuted
Five cows were electrocuted when they drank water from a tank into which a live wire had fallen. A few snakes and crabs were also electrocuted in this incident that took place at Thondamuthur, about 15 km west of the city.
