Life sentence for six persons

COIMBATORE: Judge of the Fast Track Court-II Pandian convicted and sentenced six persons to life imprisonment on Monday in a case relating to the murder of Mayakumar here on June 29, 2006. Murugan (22), Balakrishnan (26), Muthuraj (21), Natham Marimuthu (20), Jayachandran (22) and Manikandan (22) had been charged with abduction and murder of Mayakumar.

According to a case registered by the Vadavalli police, Mayakumar had a quarrel with his wife Jaya while they were staying at Ajjanur, near Vadavalli. Belonging to Pudukottai, they had shifted to Coimbatore even as there were problems in their marriage. Mayakumar was working in a mill and his wife suspected that he was having an affair with a woman colleague. She lodged a complaint with the police. During inquiry, Mayakumar said that he was moving the court for a divorce. Jaya informed her brothers Murugan and Balakrishnan. The two reached here and contacted Muthuraj, Natham Marimuthu, Jayachandran and Manikandan who were working in a brick kiln at Kanuvai. The six were found to have abducted and murdered Mayakumar.
