Plea to restore language departments in college

Chennai: The Linguistic Minority Co-ordination Committee has appealed to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to restore Hindi, Malayalam and Urdu departments in Presidency College.

The departments were closed down by the Higher Education Department due to lack of minimum student strength. Directions should be issued to the college principal to issue application forms for B.A courses in these languages, the committee said, adding that a State-wide agitation would be launched if the Government did not heed its plea.
