Widen bridge over Tamiraparani

The river over-bridge (that was built during the British period) in Srivaikundam in Tuticorin district has become a traffic bottleneck since it is narrow.

The bridge (over the Tamiraparani) connects Srivaikundam with the arterial road that leads to Tirunelveli and Tiruchendur.

I request the Highway authorities concerned to take immediate action to widen the bridge.

P.Senthil Saravana Durai,

Vazhavallan,

Tuticorin.

Operate more point-to-point buses

This refers to the letter “Inadequate bus services” (The Hindu, dated July 17). It is true, that bus services between Tirunelveli and Tuticorin are not adequate to cater the increasing number of commuters.

Point-to-point buses are already plying between Tirunelveli and Tuticorin which alleviate the inconveniences of the passengers to some extent. Unlike in other districts the point-to-point services that start from Tirunelveli will straight away run to Tuticorin without stopping at any intermediate stations and vice-versa.

This would go a long way to save the journey time and avoid other inconveniences to the passengers.

The Government should arrange to ply more new buses between Tirunelvlei and Tuticorin and increase the frequency of the bus services which alone would help to solve the problem.

Sivanthai M.Murugan,

Thoothukudi.

Open train ticket booking counter

Tuticorin town is fast expanding on its western periphery.

A majority of Tuticorin’s population live in the contiguous areas.

The train ticket booking counters function only on the railway station premises situated in the eastern most tip of the coastal town.

People residing on the hinterland find it difficult to go the railway station.

It would, therefore, be of great help to the residents if a computerised reservation counter is opened around Miller Puram, Third mile, or in the vicinity.

Vellaisamy Murugan,

Tuticorin.
