29-run win for Balavidya Mandir

Chennai: Balavidya Mandir (Adyar) defeated St. Michael’s Academy by 29 runs in the Dr. G. Rajakumar Memorial State-level u-14 inter-school cricket tournament here on Saturday.

The scores: Balavidya Mandir (Adyar) 137 for six in 25 overs (Anuragh 60) bt St. Michaels Academy 108 for eight in 25 overs (K. Mukunth 40, Vishruth four for 23).

Govt. HSS (Pudur) 72 in 25 overs (Krishna four for 11) lost to Hindu HSS 73 for five in 23.4 overs (Rohit 28).

Easy for S. Rly

Southern Railway defeated Peacock (AP) 29-13, 29-2 in the St. Joseph’s all-India invitation ball badminton tournament at the St. Joseph’s College of Engineering here on Saturday.

St. Paul’s, Holy Angels triumph

Salem teams — St. Paul’s and Holy Angels — won the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively in the State-level inter-school basketball tournament at the Sir MCt. Muthiah Chettiar HSS here on Saturday.

In the boys’ final, St. Pauls HSS outplayed St. Peters in the final league match 81-68. K.G. Srinivasan piled up a mammoth 33 points for St. Paul’s. Hindu SSS finished third.

Holy Angels clinched the girls’ title edging out Lady Sivasamy HSS 55-53 in the final league match.

Sri Sarada Vidyalaya (Salem) bagged third position.

For Holy Angles, Kanaga (16) and Raheeda Begum (22) shone. Prof. Dr. Nasser, Principal, Tamil Nadu Government Dental College and Hospital, gave away the prizes.

Ashok Leyland in final

Ashok Leyland (Ennore) entered the final of the YSCA league-cum-knock out cricket tournament for the SSI Trophy beating YSCA XI by five wickets on Saturday.

Ashok Leyland will play the winner of the match between The Hindu and Sutherland Global in the final.

The scores:

YSCA XI 86 in 25.2 overs (K. Sudhakaran four for 22) lost to Ashok Leyland (Ennore) 89 for five in 20.4 Overs. Player of the match: K. Sudhakaran (Ashok Leyland (Ennore).

Chess tournament
