London: The Oval, site for the third Test between India and England, will feature a track with pace, bounce, and carry, according to groundsman Bill Gordon. He also said the onset of summer and the ensuing drier weather would reduce the degree of swing seen at the first two Tests in Lord’s and Trent Bridge. “There never is much lateral movement here, and I wouldn’t expect the swing (seen earlier in the series),” said Gordon. “But, this is cricket and funny things happen.” Gordon added that the bounce in the wicket would help strokemakers. “It will be true, and the batsmen will be able to play their strokes, which they never really can on a slow wicket.” Four-hundred, he said, would be the par score for the first innings. — Special Correspondent
