NEW DELHI: Top seed P. Hari Krishna opened his account following a 42-move draw with leader Victor Korchnoi in the second round of the Gyorgy Marx memorial chess tournament at Paks, Hungary, on Monday. With two of the three overnight leaders ending up on the losing side, Korchnoi headed the table at 1.5 points. Hari remained in the last spot in the six-player field. Hari’s good friend Tania Sachdev was also at the bottom of the table in the concurrently played Paks Cup Grandmasters tournament after losing the second round to Hungarian leader Gabor Papp in 31 moves. In a big upset, Hungary’s Gyorzo Pataki scored over top seeded Chinese Yu Shaoteng. Even in the Hogeschool Zeeland tournament in Vlissingen, Holland, overnight joint leaders Dibyendu Barua and Deep Sengupta lost the fourth round after posting three straight victories. In the Badalona International Open at Badalona, Spain, P. Priyadarshan scored his fourth victory against 19th-seeded Italian Niccolo Ronchetti in the fifth round. The results: Gyorgy Marx Memorial (second round): Victor Korchnoi (Sui, 1.5) drew with P. Hari Krishna (0.5); Ferenc Berkes (Hun, 1) bt Peter Acs (Hun, 1); Hou Yifan (Chn, 1) bt Csaba Balogh (Hun, 1). Paks Cup (second round): Tania Sachdev (0) lost to Gabor Papp (Hun, 2); Gyorzo Pataki (Hun, 1) bt Yu Shaoteng (Chn, 0.5); Krisztian Szabo (Hun, 1.5) bt Andras Flumbort (Hun, 0.5): David Smerdon (Aus, 1) bt Mihai Grunberg (Rom, 0.5); Vl adislav Nevednichy (Rom, 1.5) drew with Attila Gorszpeter (Hun, 1.5). Hogeschool Zeeland (fourth round): Michal Krasenkow (Pol, 4) bt Dibyendu Barua (3); Daniel Stellawagen (Ned, 4) bt Deep Sengupta (3); Saheli Dhar-Barua (2.5) bt Ton van der Werf (Ned, 1.5).
