India beats Pakistan

VISAKHAPATNAM: India recovered well in the last two sets to register a 3-2 win over Pakistan in the first of the five-match volleyball test series at the Port indoor stadium here on Tuesday evening. India won 25-16, 23-25, 15-25, 25-28, 15-13.

India won the first set with ease but Pakistan turned the tables in the next set when its coach replaced captain Mohammad Zaman with Irfan Nawaz.

Nawaz controlled the game and helped Pakistan clinch the set though India managed to lead 14-10 and 20-16.

India drew level at 22-22 but mistakes at this juncture saw it losing the set.The third set was no different and Pakistan took an early lead and asserted its dominance. In the crucial fourth set the host regained its form and every one played his part in winning. Though Pakistan gave fight in the early part India surged to 11-8 lead and closed the match in its favour after some tense moments when Pakistan moved to 13-14. Two telling smashes by Pradeep at this stage ensured victory for India.
