THE WINNER: Rafath Habib in action.

CHENNAI: Rafath Habib (SRSA) completed an at-times tense, come-from-behind win over R. Loganathan to win the inaugural MCC-S.A. Faheem Memorial invitation snooker tournament. Habib won six frames to three: 35-59, 40-76, 74-40, 64-30, 65-53, 22-60, 78-31, 69-49, 65-56.

After Loganathan took the second frame, aided by a break of 70, Habib summoned his experience to post a crucial break of 47 and reduce the margin; he rode the momentum to take the next two frames and went up 3-2.

In a match characterised by piecemeal breaks, both players were induced into making errors — some minor with no repercussions, others that blew a frame.

Rafath took the seventh frame with a crucial break of 43, which would prove the turning point of the final. In the eighth, Rafath cleared up all the colours and took a 5-3 lead. A desperate Loganathan took a positive approach and looked set to reduce the lead, until a crucial error with a safety shot allowed his opponent to pot the brown with a long shot, and then the blue and the pink to sew up the championship.

The result: Final: Rafath Habib (SRSA) bt R. Loganathan (SVS) 6-3; 35-59, 40-76, 74-40, 64-30, 65-53, 22-60, 78-31, 69-49, 65-56.
