Hosur: The industrial community in Hosur has requested the State Government to expedite the construction of an integrated complex for Sales Tax.

Commercial activities

With the industrialisation of Hosur, commercial activities in and around the industrial town has increased manifold over the last few years.

There are a total of 5,000 Sales Tax assessees in Hosur and the estimated Sales Tax revenue is approximately Rs.15 crore a month.

Hosur has been bifurcated into regions viz. Hosur North and Hosur South.

Besides this, an Enforcement Wing also functions in Hosur.

Rented premises

Assessees who are situated at the North of the Hosur-Bangalore main road on the NH are attached to the North office and those situated at the South of the road to the South office.

Presently, all the three offices are functioning only on rented premises in different localities in the town.

Though Hosur is a major revenue earner in the State the offices are not easily accessible causing hardship to clients and the trading community.

For instance, the North office is situated in a narrow lane where no vehicle can traverse.

So, the people have to park their vehicles on Denkanikottai main road and reach the office only by walk.

Vehicle thefts

With the town being prone for rampant two-wheeler thefts, they have to think twice before leaving vehicles on the main road.

As per norm, industries have to register with the Sales Tax authorities on establishment of a new unit.

With a majority of the industrial workers being outsiders, locating the offices remains a major problem.

Along with this, first-time assessees also need lot of information on billing and other details to clarify their doubts.

Additional work

With representatives having clients in both the offices they have to run from pillar to post to get their work done entailing additional work.

Location of the offices on the same building with adequate parking facilities will be most convenient to the public and trading community.

Though representations have been made to the officials nothing concrete has emerged till date, the industrialists point out.

Land allotted

Sources say that about 1.25 acres of land has already been allotted in 1982 for construction of a Sales Tax office in the East of Chennathur village near Hosur. The construction of the Sales Tax complex should be taken up immediately and all the offices brought under one roof.
